Hi Everyone,
Over the next few weeks, Strathclyde will be engaging with four European institutions, at the beginning of a drive towards more formal international partnerships with European universities. This is at the very beginning, but it would be useful to know who in Physics has important research links to the universities listed below.
I will be giving a presentation of the department when high-level representatives of Chalmers University visit us, and would particularly appreciate if you could let me know of any connections you have there, which I should emphasise in my presentation.
The four universities are:
-Chalmers University
-University College Dublin
-RWTH Aachen
-TU Delft
It would be great if you could send any relevant comments to me by this Friday.
Thanks and very best regards,
Andrew

Subject: Upcoming Meetings with European Universities: Future Collaborative Opportunities
Dear Colleagues,
Over the next two months the Principal is planning a series of meetings with some leading European Universities to share information on key research strengths and strategic themes, and to explore areas of common research interest with the aim of identifying potential areas for future collaboration.
The reason for this email is to inform you of the visits and to ask you for information which may be relevant to the visits. I would therefore be very grateful if you could let me know:
i. If you or colleagues in your department have any existing links with these institution which could be further developed
ii. If there are any specific areas in which you or colleagues would be interested in exploring opportunities for future collaborations
iii. Any other information which may be of relevance to the Principal during his visit.
Information on the visits, together with some details of some of the universities’ research priorities, are below:
· Chalmers University of Technology http://www.chalmers.se
Inward visit led by Chalmers President, Stefan Bengtsson on 1 February 2017
Areas of Advance<https://www.chalmers.se/en/areas-of-advance/Pages/default.aspx>: Building Futures; Energy; Information and Communication Technology; Life Sciences; Materials Science; Nanoscience and Nanotechnology; Production; and Transport.
· University College Dublin http://www.ucd.ie/
Principal led visit to UCD on 1 March 2017
Research Themes<http://www.ucd.ie/research/whatweresearch/strategicpriorities/>: Agri-Food; Culture, Economy and Society; Health; ICT; Energy; Environment
Potential common areas of research: Sustainable Energy/Energy Technology; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Photonics; Materials Science and Engineering; Production Engineering.

Potential common research areas: Sustainable energy/energy technology; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Health (drug discovery, development and systems biology); Mechnical and Materials Engineering; Culture, Economy and Society.
· TU Delft – Delft University of Technology: www.tudelft.nl<http://www.tudelft.nl>
Principal led visit to TU Delft on 7 March 2017
Roadmap 2020<http://www.tudelft.nl/en/about-tu-delft/strategy/strategy-roadmap-tu-delft-2020/faculty/ewi-dimes/page/3/>: Delft Research-based initiatives across four main themes: energy, health, the living environment, and infrastructure and mobility.
Potential common research areas: Electrical Engineering and Electrical Sustainable Energy; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Aerospace Engineering; Mathematics, Applied Sciences (Physics and Pure and Applied Chemistry); Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Technology Management.
As you will see the visit by the President of Chalmers University of Technology is due to take place in two weeks so I would be grateful if you could let me know relevant information relating to Chalmers by early next week, if possible. Apologies for the short notice. For the other visits, I would be grateful for information by 1 February.
