Dear All,
I would like to remind you of the background for this series of meetings organised by research staff. They were set up in response to concerns raised by research staff at the quinquennial review a couple of years ago, that they did not feel part of the Department and didn't know much about what went on outside their own groups. Hence, some research staff have organised monthly meetings each time highlighting the activities of one particular group. I think this is a great initiative, but I am really disappointed with the interest, that has been shown by staff and PG students. If it wasn't because of the solid backing from one particular research division, this would have been a complete failure. It is disappointing that an initiative like this, which sprung out of what was probably a very reasonable concern, has been met with such apathy.
I would like you to encourage your research staff and students to attend these events, which have been organised in response to their concerns. If the reality is that what was raised was not a sufficiently serious concern that people want to attend, I would want to let the organisers know, that they are under no obligation to continue the initiative.
Best wishes
Erling

Dear all,
This months Research Integration Seminar will be on Friday 24th Feb at 2pm in JA3.14 run by the Experimental Quantum Optics Group (EQOP), featuring an overview of the main research themes in new quantum technologies for atomic clocks and magnetometers as well as quantum simulators for studying many-body physics as an analogue to solid state systems, with the option of lab tours to see the coldest atomic samples in all Scotland!
Look forward to seeing you there,
Kind Regards,
Jonathan Pritchard, Luca Mazzarella and Jochen Bruckbauer _______________________________________________
