Subject: PH450 Viva Schedule Ver 3.1

Dear All,

The 4th year project reports have been handed in and the viva schedule has been updated accordingly. I attach the latest viva schedule (v3.1) which now has the rooms.

There have been some minor rearrangements of times and independent markers. Please check which projects you have been assigned in case of any changes.

Report Marking and Viva Instructions:

- Reports are due 31st March, these will be placed soon after onto idrive for markers to download from "/idrive/Science/Physics/project/2016_2017/PH450 Final Reports/"

- Marking Sheets are on idrive in "/idrive/Science/Physics/project/2016_2017/Forms and Instructions/PH450_marking_sheets_2016-17.pdf", please note the Marking Guidelines as to how the projects should be assessed.

- Supervisors (Primary Markers) should complete the marking form "PH450 Supervisor's Mark (2 Pages)"

- Primary and Independent Markers, and Viva Chairs should each complete the marking form "PH450 Project Report". Primary and Independent Markers should send their form to the Viva Chair at least the day before the viva to allow the Chair to identify any points of disagreement.

- Primary and Independent Markers should have a short meeting with the Chair at the start of the viva.

- The timeslots are 45 mins to allow for discussion and time to get from viva to viva. The viva itself consists of 5 mins of informal presentation by the student (e.g. whiteboard or pen and paper, Powerpoint not expected) to highlight the aims of the project, give an overview of what was done, main results, and the take-home message. This is then followed by up to 30 mins of questions and discussion guided by the Chair.

- After the viva the Chair, together with Primary and Independent Markers, needs to fill out a single form, "Viva Marking Scheme", signed and dated.

- The Chair should then return the Supervisor Form, 3 Project Report Forms, and the Viva Marking Scheme form (5 forms in total) to Audrey for entry into the marks spreadsheet. The Chair may want to perform moderation of the Project Report Marks should there be major disagreement between the markers about the report. Ideally, the marks should be within the same 10-mark band as indicated on the Marking Guidelines.

Daniel.
