Dear All,
Just a reminder of the impending deadline for JARA applications (this Weds). Please let me know if you are planning to submit an application so that I can arrange for the Department's contribution to the form to be completed in time.
Best wishes,

Subject: [Academic] FW: JARA2 - important update - deadline 14 June
Sent on behalf of Prof Rob Martin, Vice-Dean (Research
Dear Colleagues,
A new set of JARA studentships (4 year durations) has become available as a result of additional funding from EPSRC. I will summarise the situation with fuller details below, first for the "EPSRC JARAs" and then for the standard JARAs (as sent in late March). For both sets applications and all necessary documents should be uploaded onto the PGRApps system by 14 June 2017.
1. Standard JARA - needs a named student of "first class" level (First class or Masters with Distinction) student, 3 years, £9k p.a. year from University, 15% external
2. EPSRC JARA - needs a named student of "first class" level (First class or Masters with Distinction) student, 4 years, £10k p.a. year from EPSRC, 15% external, equality&diversity form at application stage
Any questions to Angela Kelsey (angela.kelsey at strath.ac.uk<mailto:angela.kelsey at strath.ac.uk>) or me and we'll re-direct if necessary.
Regards,
Rob

Dear Vice Deans of Research,
Based on new and additional EPSRC funding opportunities for Strathclyde that have just been announced, please circulate the information noted below throughout your respective Faculties.
This year, in addition to the University-funded JARAs, there will also be up to 10 JARA Studentships funded by the EPSRC at a rate of £10k pa for 4 years, to be used for fees and stipend only. As with the University JARAs, a minimum contribution of 15% of the total funding package needs to be evidenced as External support. All studentships must be in the STEM disciplines.
Please note that EPSRC eligibility criteria apply to these studentships. For further information regarding eligibility, please see the attached RCUK Studentship Eligibility document.
As a condition of the EPSRC funding, Equality and Diversity monitoring and reporting is required. Accordingly, please ensure that any student who is selected to apply for a JARA completes the attached form, which provides the option of non-disclosure. Please note this will now be a standard requirement for all JARAs and future SRSS applications.
These studentships must start in October 2017.
The deadline for submitting applications [to the Faculty is 14th June] and applications should be made on the PGR Studentship System as with the standard JARAs.
It is also timely to offer a reminder that the [Faculty] deadline for (standard) John Anderson Research Award (JARA) applications is also [14th June]. The JARA is for named students who have a First Class honours degree or Masters with Distinction. The studentship provides a maximum of £9k pa for 3 years from University funds. Applications require a minimum contribution of 15% of the total student funding package (fees + stipend) that can be evidenced as being External support. The remaining funding can be contributed from Faculty, Department/School, or personal budgets.
Regards,
Billy
Dear Colleagues
The application process for the John Anderson Research Awards (JARA) is open. Applications and all necessary documents should be uploaded onto the PGRApps system by 14 June 2017.
John Anderson Research Award (JARA), formerly "Tranche 3"
· Funding for excellent named students who have a First Class honours degree or Masters with Distinction (or equivalent) awarded within a relevant cognate discipline, with internal and external recognition and a proven commitment to the field of study
· Provides a maximum of £9k per year for a 3 year studentship
· Applications require a minimum contribution of 15% of the total student funding package (fees + stipend) that can be evidenced as being external support (this isn't limited to industry funding - please ask regarding concerning eligibility of other funding)
· The remaining funding can be contributed from Faculty, Departmental/School, or personal budgets
· An international student can cover the 15%, or more, from their own funds but this must be towards tuition fees and not stipend and be suitably verified
· Application are ranked at Faculty level, with the allocations managed at University level
· In addition to assessment of student and research project quality, and alignment with Department/School, Faculty, and University strategy, prioritisation will also consider the level of external gearing funds being contributed in order to allow the levels of overall support to be maximised.
· This is supported wholly by University (i.e. non-EPSRC) funds and thus there are no-restrictions on non-UK students (although the relevant EU or O'seas fee must be applied)
There are a total of 20 awards available across all University Departments, therefore competition will be very high.
The full guidance document for JARA is available under "help" on the PGRApps page: https://pgrapps.strath.ac.uk/login.php
Estimated Studentship costs:
Home/EU; 36 months; stipend £44760, fee £12902
International; 36 months; £44,760 ;fee £57000
Should you have external funding for more than 50% of a PGR studentship and no first-class student please contact me and I will endeavour to try and find funds to complete the studentship.
Regards,
Rob
