Dear All,
It has been brought to my attention that some members of staff are missing defined deadlines for giving feedback to students. If a date is defined for the return of feedback then please stick to that date. If you are prepared to penalise students for missing deadlines then we should not miss our own deadlines for the return of feedback either, otherwise we look unprofessional and are conveying the wrong message to the students. If you cannot make a published deadline then either let the students. If you are part of a marking team then let the team leader know that you cannot make a deadline.
The department works extremely hard to manage the students’ expectations over feedback and this is one area where we do well in surveys etc. I do not want the excellent work of the majority of staff in the department undermined by the actions of one or two staff.
Nigel
