Dear All,

Further to the email below regarding the University's schedule for
consideration of senior academic promotion cases, this email provides a
summary of the Departmental process for considering the readiness of
potential cases and the relevant deadlines for the next round.

The Academic Professional Appointments Panel (APAP) meets twice a year,
normally in March and October, to consider promotion cases. Potential
cases from within the Department are considered at a meeting of the
Physics Professorial Advisory Group (PAG), scheduled in advance of each
APAP meeting. Staff considered by the PAG to have a strong enough case
to go forward to the Faculty sift panel are invited to complete the APAP
application form, with support provided by a senior academic (usually a
member of the PAG).

The next PAG meeting is on the morning of 7th August.  If you wish to be
considered for promotion via the next round of APAP, please discuss this
with your line manager in the first instance and complete the relevant
attached Self-Assessment Form. This will assist you to critically assess
your readiness (you will have much of the information needed via your
ADR form). If you decide to put your case forward for this APAP round,
please send your completed Self-Assessment Form and CV to me by 2pm on
6th August for consideration at the PAG meeting. Please note that the
self-assessment doesn't need to be a detailed narrative (bullet points
are fine), but should provide the key evidence in support of each
self-assessment score.

I will invite staff recommended by the PAG to go forward to the Faculty
sift stage to submit the full APAP application form and supporting
documentation to me by 21st August, to give me time to consider the full
case and to write supporting statements prior to the Faculty deadline.

Note that in a change to the process at Faculty level this year, I will
be present at the Faculty panel when our cases are discussed and so I
should be able to input in terms of strengthening cases going forward
from the Faculty sift.

Best wishes,

Paul

To: All members of academic professional staff

/(not including teaching staff only because I can’t find a distribution
list at this minute!)/

Please note that the schedule for consideration of senior* academic
promotion cases is available at:

https://www.strath.ac.uk/hr/careerpathways/academicprofessionalstaff/academic_promotion/

/* to grade 8 and above/

The first deadline shown in that schedule is submission by HoDs to the
Dean by 6 Sep 2019.  In practice, there will be a deadline ahead of that
in your dept.

If you are considering applying for promotion I suggest you look at the
“Science guidance on preparation of a case for senior academic
promotion” which I have just uploaded to
https://moss.strath.ac.uk/science/Resources/Forms/AllItems.aspx?InitialTabId=Ribbon%2ERead&VisibilityContext=WSSTabPersistence.
This complements the guidance provided by the University on the website
above.

Kind regards

Bronagh Dallat BSc MBA
