Dear all

STEM Glasgow’s annual event, STEMfest, is taking place on the 14th, 15 and 16th November this year at Glasgow Science Centre.

STEM Glasgow have provided the following info about each of the days, including the additional Family Day which will be taking place for the first time this year:

STEMFest’19 – 14th & 15th Nov
S2/S3 pupils from all 30 Glasgow secondary schools along with secondary ASN schools will be invited to attend from 9:30am – 2:30pm. Each pupil attending will attend the Employers Marketplace, 2 workshops and have the opportunity to visit the Science Mall. This age range of pupils has been selected due to not yet having chosen their subject choices. Last year’s uptake was exceptionally high, with a reserve list being put in place.

STEMFest Family Day – 16th Nov
For the first time we are including a STEMFest Family Day, this will take place on Saturday 16th November. Widening access pupils and their families in will be targeted for this and brought to Glasgow Science Centre. On the day the will have the opportunity to engage with the employers in the Marketplace and participate in industry led workshops. Transport and lunch will also be provided to these families. There will also be a further 3000 flyers distributed strategically around the city and these families will gain access to the science centre and the Marketplace for free. This is a fantastic opportunity to engage with young people and their families.

The Department has had a strong presence at this event in past year, with a stand in the Marketplace showcasing the Department, future career opportunities, and some hands-on activities. This year there is also the opportunity to deliver a workshop to attendees of STEMfest. The workshops should be interactive and engaging for the attendees, be 40mins in length and be for 20/30 pupils. The deadline for interest in delivering a workshop is next Monday, 2nd September.

Please reply to let me know soon if

  * you are interested in being part of STEMfest
  * if you would like to deliver a workshop

Regards,
Griff
