Dear HoDs and Directors of Research, Teaching and KE,

Please see the email below. Debbie has been asked to collate a list of interested colleagues. This may provide opportunities for staff to form useful networks. I would be grateful if you could share as you see fit within your Department and either ask colleagues to contact me directly to collate a Departmental list and send on to me.

Many thanks,
Christine.

Subject: MoU with Glasgow Council Government

Hi all - the University has signed an MoU (along with other HEIs) with the City Government to provide expertise and research on a wide range of topics. The have over 100 strategic themes but they broadly fall under the 7 categories below.

1. A thriving economy
2. A vibrant city
3. Excellent and inclusive education
4. A healthier city
5. A sustainable and low carbon city
6. Resilient and empowered neighbourhoods
7. A well governed city that listens and responds

The idea behind it is that the Council will issue a 'Call For Action' (CFA) on one or more of the themes and it is up to us to decide whether we want to respond. The CFA will be sent from the Council to Glasgow University who are looking after this element of the process and they will then send it to the co-ordinators in each of the Institutions. We are using Policy at Strathclyde as our co-ordinating centre - and are engaging with Engineering and Science colleagues to ensure that all Schools are engaged. As a start point we are asking all centres to look at the themes and to have a first sift of suggesting areas of expertise amongst staff that might be able to contribute. If you have a register of expertise this would be a good start point but if not then this will help us to develop one. Initially we can look at the full time staff members but there is nothing to stop us from extending it to associates and adjuncts (or visiting Profs) later. Can I ask you (or to allocate a member of staff) to have a look at the 7 themes and to suggest staff members who might be able to contribute to the themes - so name and their areas of expertise. This will inform the distribution of the CFAs when they come out. The process will not exclude people from collaborating in any of the areas that might come up but it is to save everyone being sent all of the CFAs (although we are still unsure of how many/how often these will happen). I've attached the longer list FYI but you will see that it is quite extensive so the broader themes are probably an easier start point

If you could send your lists in the first instance to me I will co-ordinate until we have allocated an administrator to look after the process - and if you think I have missed anyone off the distribution please let me know (or feel free to forward this email)

Many thanks

Phil
