To All 4th Year Project Supervisors
Please note the new Project Talk arrangements. The presentations themselves will not go ahead for all students, the final mark will be adjusted to disregard this component of the course. However, I have asked students to prepare the talk slides as a learning exercise and supervisors should provide feedback on them. I append the message sent out to students.
Regards,
Daniel
Due to industrial action affecting half of the scheduled 4th Year Project talks, it has been decided to cancel the presentations for all students. However, students are still expected to prepare a set of talk slides as part of the transferable skills component of the course. To summarise the new arrangements:
* Presentations will not go ahead. This includes the talks scheduled for the 19th and 26th February 2020 as well as ones to be arranged separately.
* The final PH450 mark will now be out of 90 (50 report, 20 supervisor, 20 viva), i.e. it will be scaled so that 90 marks = 100%.
* Students will still need to upload a set of presentation slides to MyPlace, the deadline for this is Noon Wednesday 26th February 2020. Your supervisor will go over this and provide feedback during supervision.
* There will be no formal mark for the presentation slides. However, students should note that general conduct and engagement with the project may be reflected in the Supervisor mark.
During your viva, you will have the opportunity to give an informal presentation (no slides) describing your project to the examining committee (Supervisor, Independent Marker, Chair) so general advice on the structure and format of a presentation will still be valuable.
