Dear All,

This is a brief note to inform you that following the Principal’s
message earlier this week, we are working towards a 2pm deadline today
to issue a communication detailing our alternative assessment plans for
students in Years 3 to 5.

We operate a superclass in Years 4 and 5, and therefore for many
component modules an alternative assessment will not be required for UG
students. In courses where there is not sufficient continuous
assessment, an alternative open book assessment will be required. We are
contacting individual lecturers and class/module coordinators where that
is the case. Please see the communication at 2pm for further details.

Some of our modules are also taken by PGT students. The information in
the communication today will apply to Years 3, 4 and 5 only. Alternative
assessment arrangements for PGT students will be put in place following
University Executive Team decisions next week. Please note that we may
still need to provide alternative assessment for PGT students even in
classes where it is not necessary for the UG students, depending on
guidance from the ET meetings next week.

The assessment arrangements for Year 3 modules will vary depending on
the percentage of planned assessment available. Where possible, modules
will be assessed on existing marks (e.g. from the December exams) or
continuous assessment elements. There is insufficient planned assessment
for two modules and therefore, in line with University guidance, we will
set alternative open book assessments for these modules. We are
contacting individual lecturers and class/module coordinators where that
is the case. Again, please see the communication at 2pm for further details.

The assessment plans for Years 1 and 2 have already been communicated
last week.

We will hold two Q&A sessions later this afternoon for the students in
Years 3 to 5 to address any concerns they have. We will also be posting
the information and FAQs on MyPlace.

If you are contacted by a student seeking further information, please
refer them to the FAQs page and if their query is not addressed there,
please direct them to the Year Advisors. Thank you.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all involved in this
drawing up the alternative assessment plans at very short notice and in
difficult circumstances.

Regards,

Paul
