Dear All,

Can I also stress the importance of returning the marks as soon as possible. We need to send a set of sample reports to the External Examiners before the exam board meets in June.

Dear All,

Just a reminder that PH450 Project Report Marks are due. Thanks to those who have already submitted their marks. It would be good if the remaining report marks could be completed early next week.

Regards,
Daniel

Subject: PH450: Report Marking Updates

Dear All,

Two amendments:

  * Version 2 of the Marking Allocation with corrections in yellow
  * Marking deadline extended to Monday 4th May to allow for days off. For reports handed-in late, they can be considered on a case-by-case basis depending on the delay.

Note: If you have trouble accessing the idrive from home, then there are instructions on how to obtain access through Strathcloud,https://www.strath.ac.uk/professionalservices/is/help/indepth/strathcloud/networkshares/

Regards,
Daniel

Subject: PH450 Report Marking Allocation

To All Academic and Research Staff,

Please find attached the marking allocation for the PH450 Final Reports and check whether you have been allocated project reports to mark. The load has been spread out across the department amongst the academics and more senior researchers.

Reports are available in the idrive folder “Science\Physics\project\2019-2020\20200420FinalReports” in individual folders. Also available are the marking sheets, marking guide, a copy of the allocation, and the report guidelines as given to students.

The students have been instructed to write reports that are “clear, concise, easy to read and comprehend”, and that “Your reader will not necessarily be an expert in the subject so do not assume too much background knowledge.” Hence not being an expert in the area of the project should not be an problem for the Independent Markers and Chairs.

General Notes:

  * Each report is marked by the Supervisor, Independent Marker, and Chair. The Supervisor and Independent Marker should send their completed Report Marking Sheet to the Chair. Please give concise justification for each category.
  * There are still a few reports left to be submitted, mostly due to extensions. I shall notify markers when new ones are submitted. Irrespective of whether a report has an extension or subject to a late penalty, the marking should be performed as usual, any penalty (if any) will be applied afterwards.
  * Please try to complete the marking of the reports within 1 week, although it is understandable if more time is required. If you run into difficulties, please liaise with the Chair (or myself if you are the Chair).
  * In cases where TurnItIn has indicated a potential issue, I have also included the TurnItIn output with the project report. The Chair should let me know if further action needs to be taken.

Supervisors:

  * Where the primary supervisor is at RS07 grade, please enlist the help of the secondary (more senior) supervisor in your marking.
  * The Supervisor should also send a separate Supervisor Mark Sheet to the Chair.

Instructions for Chairs

  * Please remind the other markers after a week.
  * To return the finalised marks for each project, please upload the marking sheets (3 Project Marks + 1 Supervisor Mark) to the same folder as the report on the idrive for ease of organisation.
  * Please moderate marks if there is a greater than 10 marks spread. Briefly discuss amongst the markers to clarify major points of disagreement, ideally coming up with a consensus and a reassessed set of marks with a spread of 10 marks or fewer. If such a result cannot be achieved, then include a brief explanation in your report of the points of disagreement and the reason for the spread of marks.

Thanks,
Daniel
