Subject: Email confirming operational requirements for graduations
Dear colleagues
Please forgive the email on a rest day, this requires no response but is a notice of an operational communication which will be sent on Tuesday to all graduating students. Ordinarily these emails would be sent from Student Experience, however, given the circumstances a communication will be sent on behalf of the Principal, as detailed below. A set of FAQs accompanies this communication and has been published on the website at: https://www.strath.ac.uk/coronavirus/students/graduations/ (the information is also published on the graduation pages).
As this email is only going to graduating students, the message below will not be circulated to all staff, so please send this on to colleagues in your Schools and Departments as appropriate.
Best,
Cathy
Dear Strathclyde students
Degree Awards and Graduation Ceremonies
On 24 March I wrote to you to advise that in support of the Government announcement to halt the spread of the Covid-19 virus and in the interests of your own safety, health and wellbeing, and that of your family and friends’, the University has postponed the formal graduation ceremonies.
While the ceremonial aspect has been postponed, please be assured that those eligible to graduate will still receive a degree or qualification award this summer. Arrangements are now in place to ensure that formal awards are granted by the University Senate to enable you to take up offers of employment or further study.
· All students eligible to graduate will graduate in absentia on Friday 03 July 2020 and have the option to participate in a replacement graduation event at a later date.
· To facilitate the award, in absentia, we still require you to complete enrolment for Graduation; this has re-opened so please register as soon as possible.
· In our continuing commitment to you during this challenging period, we have taken steps to ensure you will have access to an authorised and approved digital copy of your degree certificate shortly after the conferment date in July. Information on this will be issued in due course.
· Our FAQs have been updated to reflect the changes for the summer conferment of awards and it is important that you read this information and understand the steps that each of you now need to take.
We very much look forward to celebrating your success at a future ceremony. The successful completion of your degree programme is of paramount importance to all of us here at Strathclyde as is the conferment of your award and celebration of your success. We remain fully committed to you during this challenging period.
Best wishes
Jim
