Dear All,

Please see below requests for an excellent cause -  I will be donating
£100 from a special fund to help the next generation of scientists. If
you would like to also donate in a similar way from any underspent
accounts with a bit spare cash or a special fund, can you please make an
internal transfer through FMS to the Children’s University budget code:
17567 GEN2029-103

Many thanks,

Brian

Dear Brian

As a socially progressive institution, the University of Strathclyde
aspires to increase opportunities for people from a diverse range of
backgrounds and is committed to public and community engagement.

Glasgow Children’s University
<https://www.strath.ac.uk/workwithus/publicengagement/schools/childrensuniversity/>
was founded in 2013 and is part of a national programme run by
Children’s University Scotland
<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fchildrensuniversity.scot%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cb.w.j.mcneil%40strath.ac.uk%7Cad7bf2e6182c431e6dc808d832d31ab5%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637315229549348216&sdata=31xdcaIZCq7hKt2VdfeUcYMqBatYBnA8jF0bb49W%2B4Q%3D&reserved=0>
– a charity that works with partners to inspire children to take part in
learning beyond the classroom.  We work with schools and other learning
providers to help children overcome barriers to learning and to further
their talents and interests through fun, interactive learning
experiences outside of school lesson time.

As part of our desire to tackle digital exclusion for the most
vulnerable children in our society we are working in collaboration with
The Curiosity Box
<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcuriosity-box.net%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cb.w.j.mcneil%40strath.ac.uk%7Cad7bf2e6182c431e6dc808d832d31ab5%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C637315229549353206&sdata=xLP%2BQ6GJSLd1tIgxGzmuV8gDaRHrpCE0f%2BvupWkTOtQ%3D&reserved=0>
to provide a set of fun and inspirational STEM learning activities
neatly packed into a letterbox sized box.  These boxes are carefully
designed to include everything that a child needs to undertake the
activity – no requirement to find additional resources at home or for
parents/carers to purchase them.  We want to eliminate any potential
barriers.

The Covid-19 pandemic is having a negative effect on the children who
are already suffering the most and we can make a difference and help
tackle the attainment gap. By targeting those schools and pupils who are
most disadvantaged, these Curiosity Boxes could provide the spark in a
child which fosters their love of science, engineering, technology,
business etc and make them the Strathclyde students of the future.

In order to achieve our aim we need funding and are seeking your support
in the form of a financial contribution.  This contribution can be any
amount – there is no minimum or maximum amount and your support could
help to buy a Curiosity Box for one child or 100s of children. Please
get in touch if you have any spare funding that we could put to use –
any underspend as a result of event cancellations, knowledge exchange or
public engagement funding, covid-19 related grants,….

We aim to distribute the first set of boxes in September, with the
potential to tailor future boxes to particular disciplines following
evaluation. Even if you are not in a position to offer financial support
at the moment, please let us know if you would be interested in working
with us on future boxes related to your particular subject area.

Kind regards.

Aileen
