PS Supervisors, please give feedback on the presentation to your student soon, again giving a general indication of the grade. This can be done before the final collation of marks. Apart from the style and presentation of the talk, feedback any advice or suggestions that may be useful for the 2nd Report, such as level of the material, technical correctness, graphs and diagrams, and narrative structure.

Subject: PH450 Presentations

Dear All,

The 4th Year Project Presentations are now available for marking (there were a few late submissions, and there were some technical difficulties in handling the large size of the submissions, hence the delay in being able to release them for marking). These are 10 minute talks each so hopefully it should not take too long to assess these. The presentations are worth 10% of the course mark. It would be appreciated if the marks could be returned by Friday 19/3/2021.

At a minimum, the same examination committee (Supervisor, Independent, Chair) for each project should mark these. But as in the presentation sessions in previous years, please encourage other staff (RAs), e.g. members of your group to mark them and hand in to the Chair.

Some are quite large video files (a few hundred MB) so I was unable to upload them to idrive easily. Hence I have made them available on the University OneDrive for Business storage facility, access link:

You can find the Marking Sheets/Scheme in the main directory together with the instructions given to students. Chairs, please return the marking sheets (without moderation) to idrive in the individual student folders on idrive at: idrive/Science/Physics/project/2020-21/Presentations

Presentations should be assessed on the clarity of explanations, appropriate level (aimed at fellows students), effective use of the medium (e.g. graphics), how well it described and motivated the project, coverage of background material, and general effectiveness as a presentation. No new work was expected or required, the presentation should cover mostly the material in the 1st Report with subsequent progress since optional. Consult the marking sheet/scheme and the instructions for more detail on the brief. Students were instructed to use the provided Powerpoint template.

Thanks,
Daniel, PH450 Coordinator
