Dear all,

the Scottish branch of the Institute of Physics will be holding their annual festival of physics, rebranded as The Big Bounce, in the Barras and Barrowland Ballroom on Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 of October this year. Details of the event are attached.

This is a real opportunity for the department to increase our visibility in the East End, to connect with the local communities, and to fulfil the impactful public engagement promised in all those grant applications. If anyone has had ideas in their mind about outreach then it should be noted that the Institute of Physics are offering practical and some financial support towards developing activities. Support is also available through the departmental public engagement activities and groups, especially with effort and personhours to develop and build ideas into reality.

The deadline for applications is the 14th May. I would ask all research groups to put some effort into generating ideas and for the group heads to provide me with a list of existing, shovel-ready, and potential public engagement activities by 7th May. This is to allow time to coordinate ideas and to allocate resources.

Best,
Griff
