Dear colleagues,

I’m forwarding on details of an initiative from the Scottish branch of the Institute of Physics. The Institute of Physics is looking to get a dialogue going between people from physics, in any form, and local communities to examine what real needs and questions that communities see unanswered right now. It might be that these are questions like what will jobs are there going to be in the mid-21st century? What is the science behind climate change? Is science falling back into an ivory tower or can it be more involved in the life of all Glaswegians? It is up to the community groups to ask the questions they want to and for the physics side to listen to what is being asked.

The Institute of Physics will provide training and support for anyone who wishes to take part. Activities will be led by an external group to make sure that there is a proper two-way dialogue and to capture the data. Similar activities will be undertaken in the Birmingham and Manchester areas, so there is a real effort being put into this.

Further details are in the attached flier. If you have any thoughts on whether or not this might be something you can do, or any other questions at all then drop an email to engagement at iop.org<mailto:engagement at iop.org> .

Regards,
Griff
