Dear All,

I am extending the call for PH450 Project topics until Friday 10/9/2021, and specifically invite and encourage academic and senior research staff who currently have fewer than 3 places they (or with the assistance of their postdocs) are offering. If you are already committed to supervising PH550 project students or repeating PH450 projects, these count against the 3 places. A few supervisors have consistently over several years borne the burden of supervising much a much greater than average number of projects a year to cover the lack of other projects. Of course, if you would like to have more than 3 project students allocated to you, that would be much appreciated, but not generally expected. This year the 4th and 5th Year student numbers are a bit more manageable than last year, but there is still the need to more evenly spread out supervision duties.

Most of you will have already been added to the PH450 Staff Mailing List (ph450-projects at phys.strath.ac.uk<mailto:ph450-projects at phys.strath.ac.uk>) for academics and researchers involved in delivering and assessment the 4th Year Projects. At the moment, this list has primary and secondary supervisors from the draft project list but I will be adding all academics in due course to this list. If you have not received the initial Welcome Email and would like to have priority to be added, please drop me an email. Also let me know of any research staff who should also be added. It is hoped that all PH450 relevant emails will only be sent to this mailing list once it is fully populated.

Thanks,
Daniel

To PH450 Project Supervisors,

You may have already started receiving enquiries from students about your offered projects. These may ramp up in Semester 1 Week 0 when the standard project allocation process officially begins. Students submit their preferences 17th Sept 2021.

Supervisors may choose to run information sessions to answer student questions en masse. If you would like to do this, please send me:

  * Titles of projects to be covered
  *   Time/Date, duration
  * Details of the meeting (e.g. Zoom)

I shall post this information on the PH450 MyPlace page as it comes in.

Thanks,
Daniel
