Abstract

In this talk I want to introduce and discuss some basic properties, designs and characteristics of optical Microelectromechanical System (MEMS) devices that have potential for integration into custom built microscope systems and enable miniaturisation and/or extra functionality. Focus will be on individual optical mirrors and scanners, leaving out full adaptive optics systems as that would be a talk in itself. Following on from the MEMS introduction I will present application examples of integrating MEMS micromirrors into a variation of microscopy systems, looking at light-sheet microscopy, photoacoustic microscopy and multiple super-resolution approaches which are being developed in the group and with collaborators.
