[Academic] Big Bounce 2022 [Public Engagement]

Morning All,

The Institute of Physics are planning this years Big Bounce – what was formerly known as the Festival of Physics – which will be held in the Barrowlands area on the 29-30 October. The event previously was held at Dynamic Earth, but the Scottish branch of the Institute of Physics have refocused their efforts on direct community engagement, which is why the event is now based in the East End of Glasgow. The call of activities is now out and the Department strongly encourages all research Divisions to participate. At this point I am looking for brief ideas or statements of interest from individuals and groups.

Please note that the deadline on the attached document is for external submissions and Strathclyde Physics have an extended deadline. Informal submissions to me would be appreciated by Monday, 11 July.

Last year’s Big Bounce was relatively limited, given the on-going Covid restrictions, but was extremely well received. Physics, largely lead by our PhD students, had a large presence and our activities were the most highly recommended by attendees. Amongst other things, you’ll see that we managed to get local kids excited about special relativity!
