This initiative aims to bring together researchers from diverse disciplines, such as medical, data, engineering and physical sciences, to drive co-development of innovative and high-risk high-reward technologies to understand cancers of unmet need better and to treat cancer more effectively.

The focus will be on hard-to-treat cancers, including brain, lung, oesophageal, pancreatic, stomach and liver cancers, which have some of the poorest 5-year survival figures.

Cancer challenge themes we aim to consider include:

  *   hard to access cancers
  * tumour heterogeneity and molecular complexity
  *   effective treatment delivery
  *   disease modelling
  *   dormancy
  *   high stromal content
  *   treatment resistance

We welcome applications from academia and industry.

The deadline for applications to attend is 8 November 2022, submitted via a short online form (Survey Monkey) linked from the 'Start application' button in the funding opportunity listing<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ukri.org%2Fopportunity%2Ftechnological-innovation-for-understanding-cancers-of-unmet-need%2F&data=05%7C01%7Ccath.cheshire%40strath.ac.uk%7C5a6c2280781e482273d108daac3ec8d3%7C631e0763153347eba5cd0457bee5944e%7C0%7C0%7C638011682890378441%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=mzhFLbjZtg8wmpR2YHNz0dOtjUv2JV95NlH7Jj%2BPc7c%3D&reserved=0> on UKRI Funding Finder.

The two day in person sandpit workshop will be held on 18 and 19 January 2023 in Manchester, with a pre-event online introductory meeting on 11 January 2023.
