Dear All,

NOTE: There have been some changes to the Markers, please check if you have been added/moved/removed.

Please find attached DRAFT B of the PH450 Marking Allocation and Viva Schedule.

Viva Schedule:

  * I intend on releasing V.1 of the schedule to students on Wednesday
  * The vivas have been scheduled in the gaps between or after students' exams
  * Apologies if there has been any double-booking, please let me know so I can shift times
  * If you cannot make the scheduled time/date, let me know and I can try to reschedule before the V.1 is released to students. But the viva can be rescheduled by the mutual agreement of student and markers, this may prove a more straightforward process than going through me
  * By default, the location of the vivas will be the office of the Chair. But if this is not suitable, any of the other marker's offices is also acceptable (Chairs, please coordinate with Supervisor/Independent). Let me know if this is the case or if other alternative arrangements are required

Supervisors:

  * A reminder for your students that final reports are due Noon 3rd April 2023
  * Extension requests have started to come in, I will ask students to discuss this with Supervisors prior to putting in a formal request through MyPlace. Please inform me of any issues that may affect your project student's ability to submit time.
  * Thanks for all your efforts this year to run the projects. These are often the highlight of the students' studies and much appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel

Subject: PH450: Marking Allocation DRAFT A

Dear All,

Please check whether you have been assigned marking duties in the attached first draft of the marking allocation for PH450:

  * The load has been spread fairly evenly across the whole department (weighted by grade), this also takes into account previous duties in PH550/570 this year
  * Students have been instructed, "The Final Report should be accessible to non-specialists..." so do not be alarmed if you have been assigned a project to mark that is not in your specific research area

Marking Notes:

  * Report (50%/0.9): hand-in date Monday 3rd April 2023. This is to be marked independently by Supervisor, Independent, Chair. The report will be placed in idrive together with marking scheme.
  * Supervisor Mark (20%/0.9): To be assessed at the completion of the project.
  * Viva (20%/0.9): In-Person (unless special dispensation). Will be during the exam period 17/4-19/5/2023, though usually a few days after a student's last exam, though can also be in a suitable gap before or in between exams. Viva slots 45 mins, incl. 30 questions. Supervisor, Indep., and Chair all attend
  * Due to industrial action, the talks were not assessed, hence the rest of the marks have been scaled by division by 0.9

Marks Return:

  * Via the https://projectmarking.phys.strath.ac.uk/ website, accessible on-campus or via VPN
  * Report marks to be uploaded by each marker (Supervisor, Indep., Chair)
  * Supervisor to upload their mark
  * Chair (only) to upload viva mark

The viva schedule is currently being constructed and a draft to be circulated to staff later this week.

Thanks,
Daniel
