[Academic] PH450 projects - allocated

Dear All,

Thank you for offering projects for this year's PH450 project.  I'm delighted to inform you that all the students submitted their top 10 project choices by the required deadline.  This has allowed us to complete the allocation and checking process quickly.  Even though certain projects were extremely popular (nanoscience!) and we were unable to allocate every student's first choice, we able to allocate all students in one round only and ensure a reasonable spread of projects across staff.

As there are only 43 students this year (and we had over 100 student places) many staff will not have to act as supervisors this year.  To this end, we hope that if you haven't been allocated students that you will help out with independent marking and chairing duties.  (Changes brought in by the IOP accreditation changes mean that the need for independent markers is greater than before).

So how do you know if you have a student (or two)?
This afternoon you will received an email with the student's name, email address and which project they have been allocated.

You will also get an email (for the student) in which they will be informed of their project.

Finally, I've asked all students to contact you to make plans for their first meeting, so they should contact you too!

And then, when Jacqui and I have recuperated, you'll get some further details about how PH450 will be organised this year.
