A colleague from Dundee University asked me to circulate the message below about their search for an external examiner in Physics. They are looking for someone to start imminently (February) as they ran into an issue with a proposed examiner not being eligible due to having another examiner from the same University.

Please let me know if you're interested or email David Keeble (d.j.keeble at dundee.ac.uk) directly to get more info.

Regards,

Rob

We are seeking an external examiner to take over for the remainder of this year, i.e. to check the semester 2 examination papers in February/March and attend the examination board in May and then ideally to serve for a further three years.

External Examiner for UG Physics degrees
The primary requirement is to check the Level 3 to Level 5 degree examination papers. The Level 2 modules include three core Physics modules with additional modules in programming, mathematics and electronics. Almost all the Level 1 and Level 2 physics modules are delivered as on-line exams in invigilated examination rooms using Pearson Mastering Physics. These exams are available to the external to review but in the past examiners have not commented in detail on these. There is one exception at Level 2, the Mathematics and Mechanics module has a conventional written examination and it is helpful to have this paper checked carefully, similar to the Level 3 to Level 5 exams. A complete list of modules that have degree exams requiring external examiner checking is given below, the X1XXX modules typically run in semester 1 and the X2XXX modules in semester 2. There are two exam diets, one in December and one April/May. The only Exam board which the external examiner is required to attend is the main board held late May early June. There is a second resit board in late July but the external examiner is not required to attend. In addition to the modules list below there are a number of continually assessed modules including the Experimental and Professional Physics modules and the Project modules. Typically the external examiner will review the continually assessed module work in the few days leading up to the May/June Exam board, particular attention is often given to the projects. The BSc students perform a one year project (30 credits) while the MSci students perform a 2 year project (75 credits).
