Dear Colleagues,
A quick reminder to ensure that technician time is properly costed on your research grants, depending on the nature of your project.
Given our current technician shortage, the workshops will prioritize jobs funded through grants that include paid technician time. Properly recovering technician costs on grants is also essential for justifying new technician appointments.
As a general guideline, the Department would normally expect:
* IT Technician Time: At least 0.05 FTE, with additional time costed as needed based on requirements, such as for projects with a substantial computational component.
* Mechanical Workshops: At least 0.1 FTE for experimental projects requiring the fabrication of parts or other workshop work. If your project requires more effort, or if your grant has multiple projects running in parallel please adjust the FTE accordingly to ensure successful delivery.
* Electronics & Cleanroom Support: Similar considerations apply - please cost your technician time appropriately.
As always, please ask Jo to review the costing. She will ensure that technician time is evenly distributed among the named technicians within the Department.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Best wishes,
Stefan
