Sent on behalf of the Head of Department:

Dear all

On Wednesday 2nd April at 2pm (JA3.26), the Department will be hosting a seminar from the University's Equality and Diversity Engagement Officer, covering microbehaviours and how to foster an inclusive environment at Strathclyde by promoting micro-affirmations.

Both for the benefit of our PDA groups and our PhD students, attendance by staff is strongly encouraged. We also need to demonstrate we are taking this seriously for the Department's Athena SWAN application (which amongst other things, will impact eligibility for future UKRI grant applications by the department).

Attending this session supports Strathclyde's people oriented core values.

Microbehaviours, micro-aggressions and micro-affirmations describe the small ways in which we interact with each other - some positive, some negative, some neutral - which can either make people feel excluded and ignored or valued and included. The session will explore microbehaviours, their causes, how to manage micro-aggressions, and how to foster an inclusive environment at Strathclyde by promoting micro-affirmations.
