Dear PH450 Markers, Supervisors and Chairs,
Thank you so much for sending your availability through to Jacqui and I so we could arrange the vivas. I'm now sending details about marking.
Reports, viva dates, assessment criteria and feedback forms can be found in folders within
I:\Physics\project\2024-2025_PH450\
Project Marking Website:
We are using the project marking website<https://projectmarking.phys.strath.ac.uk/> to collect grades and justification comments for the grades. You must be on the Strathclyde campus or access the system via the VPN. For technical support in accessing the website, please contact physics-itsupport at strath.ac.uk<mailto:physics-itsupport at strath.ac.uk>.
Chairs and Independent Examiners: Please read and grade the reports before the viva via the project marking website<https://projectmarking.phys.strath.ac.uk/>. This will allow the chair of the viva panel to review the grades and comments before the viva. Comments entered here are NOT shared with students.
Feedback for students: After grading, please provide some brief, constructive feedback to the student to support them to improve their next project report. Please complete and then return a report feedback form<https://strath-my.sharepoint.com/:f:/g/personal/helen_vaughan_strath_ac_uk/Eox1CgLznGxFs4DOtP8M3nAB2pFgyx6QUg1UfBBjk0AELQ?e=xW4KdI> (which asks three short questions) to this email address. Do not include grades in these forms.
Supervisors: Please provide grades and justification for the supervisor mark and read and grade the report before the viva. This will allow the chair of the viva panel to review the grades and comments before the viva. Comments entered here are NOT shared with students.
Feedback for students: After grading, please provide some brief, constructive feedback to the student to support them to improve their next project and written report. Please complete and then return a supervisor's feedback form<https://strath-my.sharepoint.com/:f:/g/personal/helen_vaughan_strath_ac_uk/Eox1CgLznGxFs4DOtP8M3nAB2pFgyx6QUg1UfBBjk0AELQ?e=xW4KdI> (which asks three short questions) to this email address. Do not include grades in these forms.
Viva guide: There is some inconsistency about how vivas are run which we seek to minimise this year. A viva guide is being prepared and will be circulated shortly.
Feedback for students (Rationale):
In a recent focus group of previous PH450 students, we learned that the projects could be even better if the viva experience was standardised for all students and if all students received constructive feedforward to take and apply to their next project (e.g. PH550, MSc, PhD, employment).
This feedback should be brief, constructive and targeted to help a student improve their next project.
Constructive feedback should aim to answer the following questions
* What was good and why?
* What was less good and why?
* What can be improved and how could that be done?
It is hoped that these additional few sentences will make a big difference to the student and not take significant additional time to write.
Many thanks for all your help with the projects,
Helen
