We are advertising a postdoctoral position in the theoretical program on emergent quantum phenomena and mesoscopic transport in ultracold atomic gases run by Associate Professor Karen Kheruntsyan. The program is funded by the Australian Research Council Discovery Project Grant in the Quantum Atom Optics Theory group within the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Queensland.

The University of Queensland and its main St Lucia campus is situated near the heart of the city of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. It has a subtropical climate that is “Beautiful one day, perfect the next.” The Quantum Atom Optics Theory group involves 5 staff members (Prof M. Davis – ARC QEII Fellow, A/Prof M. Bromley – ARC Future Fellow, Dr. M. Olsen – ARC Future Fellow, Dr J. F. Corney, and Dr. S. Haine – ARC DECRA Fellow) and a number of postdocs and PhD students. The theory group works closely with an experimental program in ultracold gases run by Professor Halina Rubinsztein-Dunlop. The School of Mathematics and Physics hosts a head-node of an ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems, a node of an ARC CoE for Quantum Computing and Communication Technologies, plus several other quantum science programs.

The appointee is expected to actively contribute to an internationally recognised research program in the theoretical area of quantum gases and quantum science, with a specific focus on nonequilibrium many-body dynamics and mesoscopic quantum transport in ultracold atomic gases. The broad aims are to understand the microscopic mechanisms and phenomenology of emergent transport phenomena in quantum gases, with an emphasis on developing new theoretical approaches and new phenomenological theories of quantum transport. Specific areas of study will include theoretical understanding of nonequilibrium phenomena in a variety of ultracold atom systems, including transport through tunnel-coupled 1D Bose gases, conduction through mesoscopic channels, anomalous diffusion in random potentials, and diffusion of mobile impurity atoms.

The position is a full-time, fixed term (3 years) appointment at Academic Research level A or B depending on qualifications.

All applicants must supply the following documents: Cover letter, Resume/CV with the names and contact details of three referees, and written responses to Selection Criteria specified in the Position Description.

For further information, including contact details, application process, access to the online submission form and the full Position Description, please follow this link:
