Morning,

The new Wildebeest server should be ready and working now.

If you find any quirks or gotchas, please let me know.

Thanks,

Timothy

Subject: Wildebeest replacement

Hello,

I'd like to book a time to replace the current Wildebeest with a newer machine. My suggestion is Monday 25th November.

Benefits:

  * Less demanding GUI for Thinlinc sessions
  *   Up-to-date OS
  *   More system resources

This is the beginning of the CNQO stack update from CentOS 7 to AlmalLinux 8, so more to come.

While the transfer happens, the following will be offline:

  * Thinlinc and SSH sessions to wildebeest, whether on or off campus
  * MathLM license server for Mathematica
  *   IDL license server

I hope that the work will take less than a day. And that the most used parts of the system will be available fairly quickly.

Thanks,

Timothy
