[Cnqo] Reinstalling CNQO servers

Hello,

Most of the CNQO servers need updating to a more recent Linux OS. At present they are in an intermediate state:

  *   Armadillo - File server (CentOS 7)

  * Wildebeest - SSH, Thinlinc server, Mathematica and IDL license server (AlmaLinux 8)

  * Phys -porpoise - Juptyerhub server and non-Slurm calculations (AlmaLinux 8)

  * Vole - Slurm submit node (CentOS 7)

  *   Ribbo1-8 - Compute nodes (CentOS 7)

  *   Phys-vole - new Slurm submit node (AlmaLinux 8)

  *   Ribbo9 - Compute node (AlmaLinux 8)

I would like to propose some extended downtime to do the work. This could be the first week we're back in January (6th January 2025), or something a bit later. I hope that would allow the PH550 students time to complete their work, and make changes to the system before Semester 2 starts.

The schedule would look something like:

  * Upgrade Armadillo (one day's downtime for the whole system)
  * Prep new applications for new OS
  * Upgrade compute nodes a few at a time, and reintegrate with Phys-vole
  *   Switch off vole

Thanks,

Timothy
