‘International Women’s Day 2015: Make it Happen’<https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/courseDetails.asp?course=INTE>
10.30am – 3pm, Insight Institute, Friday 20th March.
To celebrate International Women’s Day and as part of the University’s Diversity Week 2015, staff and students are invited to an event on Friday 20th March.
In the UK, 22% of Professors are female, 22.8% of FTSE 100 board members are women and 13% of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) employees are female.
This year’s IWD theme is ‘Make it Happen’. A range of speakers will be discussing their own career journeys as well as their thoughts on actions which can be taken to speed up progress in the career advancement of women in higher education and industry. The event will also examine how to increase female representation in STEM areas, where they remain under represented.
Speakers include Dr Susie Mitchell, Programme Director – Glasgow City of Science<http://www.glasgowsciencecentre.org/education/the-representation-of-women-in-stem.html>, Geraldine Wooley of Equate Scotland<http://www.equatescotland.org.uk/>, Ishbell MacPhail<http://www.heraldscotland.com/business/company-news/dell-boss-calls-for-more-women-in-it.116313745> of DELL, Dr Maeve Lankford of the LFHE Aurora<http://www.lfhe.ac.uk/en/programmes-events/you/aurora/> Women’s Leadership Development Programme and Paul Chambers of the Strathclyde/University of Malawi Girls into Science<http://www.strath.ac.uk/humanities/schoolofeducation/education_projects/malawi/> project.
A panel of Strathclyde women professors will also discuss their own career journeys and explore practical actions universities can take to speed up change and achieve better gender representation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics areas and at senior levels.
As spaces are limited, please book at https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/courseDetails.asp?course=INTE
