Dear All
Please find below information on an Optics Division seminar, which might
be also of interest for other members of the department and the
Fraunhofer Centre.
Kind regards

Title : Nitride and ZnO-based photonics : from non-linear optics to
novel microlasers
Abstract :
Wide bandgap semiconductors (GaN and nitride alloys, ZnO) provide a
spectrally-broad transparency -expanding from the near-infrared to the
ultraviolet- as well as robust excitons that are efficiently interacting
with light and stable up to room temperature. They offer a promising
playground for non-linear optics and micro- or nano-lasers at 300K. Over
the last decade, the progresses of the nitrides' processing has allowed
to fabricate nanophotonic resonators and devices such that the
interaction between excitons and photons can be tailored on demand. We
will review our recent achievements, ranging from ZnO polariton lasers
based on 2D vertical cavities, to UV-C GaN/AlN microdisk lasers and
second-harmonic generation in photonic crystal cavities. These works
result from collaborations with CNRS (CRHEA, LPN), and Orsay and
Clermont-Ferrand Universities (IEF, IP).
