Dear All,

You may be aware that the NSS results for 2016 were released yesterday. I would like to thank you for all your efforts that you have made on the teaching side as it was a reasonably successful year for us.

I have done a quick analysis of the NSS results and will discuss this more at the next DC but in terms of rankings both in the University and nationally for Physics we rank as follows

University 2nd
Faculty 1st

Scottish Physics 3rd behind St Andrews and Dundee
UK Physics 5th

A couple of areas where we can improve on relate to making the criteria for marking known and promptness of feedback. Can I ask that when you set an essay type assignment you copy the marking scheme that you use to the students and re-emphasis to the students that we work to the Faculty’s 2 week feedback deadline.

Can I also remind you that when you complete and return your class information sheets that you include the hand-in dates for any continuous assessment on the sheets. This way we can review and avoid any potential classes.

So once again well done and lets keep up the good work so that we can beat both St Andrews and Dundee next year.

Nigel
