Scholarships for Teacher Training from the Institute of Physics

[IOP]

The Institute of Physics (IOP) would like to notify all AGCAS members that the 2014 Teacher Training Scholarships programme is now open for applications. The programme has been topped up this year which means there are 150 scholarships worth £25,000 to award to high-calibre individuals wishing to embark on physics initial teacher training. Each scholarship will enable those doing PGCE or School Direct (non-salaried) teacher training in England in 2014/15 to join a prestigious programme that offers a package of financial and academic support.

IOP scholarships are available for graduates with a 2:1 or first class degree in physics or a related subject who can demonstrate exceptional physics subject knowledge and the potential to become an outstanding teacher. Full eligibility, frequently asked questions and application deadlines can be found at www.iop.org/scholarships. <http://communications.agcas.org.uk/issues/dc991e636bc3/record_click?url_requested=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.iop.org%2Fscholarships>

The application process consists of an online application form and a physics test, followed by an assessment day for shortlisted candidates. To manage demand, application deadlines and assessment days will occur monthly, with the first deadline being Monday 25 November.

Additionally we have updated our series of physics teacher training brochures which explain more about the routes into teaching physics and the scholarships programme. These are ideal to keep on campus or distribute at events. You can download a PDF version of the Scholarships brochure<http://communications.agcas.org.uk/issues/dc991e636bc3/record_click?url_requested=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.iop.org%2Fpublications%2Fiop%2F2013%2Ffile_61589.pdf> and the Love Physics brochure <http://communications.agcas.org.uk/issues/dc991e636bc3/record_click?url_requested=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.iop.org%2Fpublications%2Fiop%2F2013%2Ffile_61591.pdf%2520%2520> or if you would prefer, we can send you some printed copies. Just email your details to teach at iop.org<mailto:teach at iop.org> and we’ll post some copies to you free of charge.

We would really appreciate your support in raising awareness of the scholarship programme to potential applicants so please pass on this information to anyone interested in physics teacher training.

If you have any queries, please email us at teach at iop.org<mailto:teach at iop.org> or visit www.iop.org/scholarships<http://communications.agcas.org.uk/issues/dc991e636bc3/record_click?url_requested=http%3A%2F%2Fmailer.agcas.org.uk%2Fpublic%2Fredirect.php%3Fparent%3D391%26url%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.iop.org%252Fscholarships>.
