Subject: Horizon 2020 Public Engagement Opportunity - Explorathon 2014!
Dear colleagues

On 26 September 2014, Strathclyde will be taking part in the Horizon 2020-funded European Researcher’s Night – Explorathon<http://www.strath.ac.uk/publicengagement/explorathon14/> – a Scotland-wide endeavour to innovatively engage over 5,000 members of the public in research.

There are lots of different ways to engage with Explorathon with many external partners, and the organisers would be delighted if your students were able to deliver a public engagement activity. This could be something that they’ve done before as part of the CDT, or a completely new experience for those wishing to dip their toes in the public engagement pool.

For more information, please see the advert below, and please do ask your cohorts to contact Carol Trager-Cowan<mailto:publicengagement at strath.ac.uk> (full details and link below) for more information on ways to play your part in this exciting public engagement event!

Best wishes,

Claire

European Researchers' Night, funded by the EU under the Horizon 2020 scheme, will bring together academics, school pupils and the public on one night – 26 September 2014 – across Europe to celebrate and showcase the best innovation and development taking place.

The Scotland-wide programme EXPLORATHON brings together the Universities of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Aberdeen and the Beltane Network of the four universities in Edinburgh – Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier, Heriot-Watt and Queen Margaret – to simultaneously stage public engagement events across Scotland.

We're looking for a team of volunteers to enthuse, inspire and wow the public throughout the West of Scotland.

We need people to:
· Deliver activities* at shopping centres, e.g., Braehead
· Give talks in pubs, bookshops, cafes …
· Be an ‘expert’ at the Glasgow Science Centre
*Activities include ‘Science Busking’ and table top demonstrations. Training and kit will be provided. However if you have any activities you would like to deliver on the night, we would be very happy to discuss them with you.

If you can help or would like more information please e-mail: publicengagement at strath.ac.uk<mailto:publicengagement at strath.ac.uk> or phone Carol Trager-Cowan 0141 548 3465
