Dear SCOPE members, dear all,
Happy new year to all of you ! SCOPE is starting you off on the right foot by inviting you to our next event : the visit of the photonics company MSquared in the (late) afternoon of Tuesday, January 26 (http://www.m2lasers.com/about-us.aspx).
Headquartered in Glasgow's West of Scotland Science Park, MSquared is a high-technology company specialized in the design, development and manufacturing of lasers and photonics instruments. It was founded in 2006, with strong and historical ties to the research carried out at the Department of Physics at Strathclyde, and is now one of the fastest-growing technology companies in the UK with 65+ employees.
The tour will start at 5:30pm and should last around 1h30. We will visit MSquared facilities, have a look at their work and products and you will have a chance to exchange with engineers and physicists involved at different stages of the company activity. Food and drinks will be offered at the end of the tour.
MSquared is recruiting at many levels in academia (see the attached job advert), and we are opening the event to all physics PhDs, as well as post-docs and interested master students. SCOPE members will have priority but there should be enough place for all interested.
We will meet at 4:30pm in front of the John Anderson building to take the 4:56 train to Maryhill station. Travel will be paid for SCOPE members (off-peak return is £2.40). If you wish to participate, please sign up before next Thursday, January 21 by adding your name to the google sheet at :
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/147p-LmRaYN5-ny5d0D2LGO2yr9jrpCmmKfd1tN-dpGo/edit?usp=sharing
The visit will be a great opportunity to learn more about some exciting physics, but also to establish contacts within a successful local business and find out more about possibilities to work in industry with a physics degree. So, even if you are not directly involved with lasers, there will be something useful for you to take away !
With best wishes,
Antoine
