Subject: Course: Complying with EPSRCs Policy Framework on Research Data
Dear Catherine,
I was hoping that you could help me in circulating the following information.
The RDMS team will be delivering a course re Complying with EPSRCs Policy Framework on Research Data on 8th March, from 09:30 - 12:30. The course is relevant to researchers (staff & PhD students) who are funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
EPSRC places a number of expectations<https://www.epsrc.ac.uk/about/standards/researchdata/expectations/> on grant award holders, including:
* the requirement for a project specific plan, i.e. data management plan;
* the opening/sharing of research data (unless subject to a valid exemption, e.g. IPR, commercialisation activity);
* the creation and dissemination of metadata to describe 'what research data exists, why, when and how it was generated, and how to access it';
* the inclusion of data (access) statements in published papers which have underlying data; and
* the preservation and curation of research data (from completed projects) for a minimum of 10 years.
The course will cover all of these elements in order that attendees are fully informed of the expectations placed on them as grant-award holders and the steps they need to take in order to achieve full compliance with EPSRC's mandate.
The course is offered as part of the Strathclyde Researcher Development Programme (RDP<http://www.strath.ac.uk/rdp/coursesevents/>) and PGRs will gain a credit on completion of the course assignment.
Further details can be found from: https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/courseDetails.asp?course=CPFR
I would be really grateful if you would circulate this to the researchers in your department.
My thanks in advance.
Marie Henderson
