[Postgrad] Sign-in for KAIAM company/cleanroom SCOPE visit on Thursday, 1 June

SCOPE is organising a visit, including a cleanroom tour, of KAIAM Europe on Thursday 1 June. With its headquarters in California and a large-scale production site in Livingston, KAIAM is a world leading manufacturer of photonic integrated circuits and opto-electrical transceivers :

For many of us, this visit may be a unique chance to observe firsthand the production of cutting-edge photonics technology in an industrial, state-of-the-art cleanroom. KAIAM is currently growing and recruiting, with a specific interest for photonics engineers / experimental physicists, although their R&D team might also be interested in physicists with more theoretical training.

The visit will take place on Thursday 1 June. We will leave from Glasgow at 9am and be back at or before 2pm, for a visit scheduled from 10am to 1pm.

This tour should be especially interesting to all of us with an optics/photonics/MEMS background. PhD students, Master students and post-docs are welcome to join, with SCOPE members given priority*. We may request a small transportation fee (typically £10) for non-SCOPE members. Please note that the number of attendees will be strictly limited due to the logistics of the cleanroom tour, so register quickly !

IMPORTANT NOTE IF YOU PLAN TO PARTICIPATE : On request of KAIAM, all participants will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement prior to the visit (we will circulate it in the coming days). We will also ask you to provide KAIAM with a short CV and/or quick description of your work to help KAIAM tailor the visit.

Given sufficient student interest, SCOPE has the opportunity to organise a company visit, including a cleanroom tour, of KAIAM Europe in mid-May. Please note that the number of attendees will be limited due to the logistics of the cleanroom tour, and that participants will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement prior to the visit. You may also be asked to provide a short CV or quick description of your work to help KAIAM tailor the visit.

Importantly, please note that SCOPE may only organise this event if sufficient interest arises from the community and that a contribution to transport fees may be asked from non-SCOPE members.
