A reminder that part of the annual progress review form on SPIDER
involves uploading a Data Management Plan (DMP) (with hindsight this
should have been included in the guidance notes for the annual progress
reviews...)
You can find information on how to produce a data management plan,
including funder-specific tempates, at
https://www.strath.ac.uk/research/researchdatamanagementsharing/datamanagementplans/
Year 1 students should upload a draft plan, which will be reviewed by
their supervisors/viva committee.
Year 2/3 students should review the plan uploaded at their last annual
review, and update if necessary.
There will be some exemptions to this requirement, for example,
1. Too early for a data management plan;
2. There is no data over and above thesis or publications text
(e.g. entirely theoretical research);
3. No changes to the previous plan uploaded.
Where exemptions apply, students are asked to record this in SPIDER -
this is to enable internal compliance reporting.
The Research Data Management & Sharing team can help review plans, which
can be uploaded to their DMP Inbox.
For those interested, there is also an optional, credit-bearing
university course on ‘Creating Research Data Management Plans’.
