Dear Gabrielle,

In 2020, ATASS Sports will be hosting another two-day introductory training workshop designed for penultimate / final-year undergraduates and Masters / PhD students in mathematics, statistics, physics or computer science, with a special focus on learning the R language through sports modelling.

The workshop, which we’ll be running once in April 2020 and once in June 2020, will be free to attend and ATASS Sports will cover travel and accommodation expenses. The event will offer attendees a rare insight into the work of a commercial mathematical research organisation, and we hope it will be of interest to some of your students at Strathclyde.

Attached is an e-flyer for the event (ATASS Sports - Workshop 2020.png) - please would you be kind enough to distribute this around the students (both UG and PG) in the department? (A text version of the flyer is given below my signature, in case this is easier.)

Learning R through modelling sports: An interactive introduction to the R language

At ATASS Sports, we apply cutting-edge statistical and mathematical techniques to forecast the results of sporting events, and in 2020 we'll be running a special introductory training workshop on the statistical language R, and how it can be used to solve problems in the field of sports modelling.

During the two-day workshop (which we’ll be running twice - once in April, and once in June), you'll learn the essentials of R from the ground up, and will have the opportunity to work hands-on with real sports data under the guidance of our expert statisticians. And of course, you'll also get to sample the very best of West Country hospitality.

Full travel expenses and two nights of hotel accommodation (for Wed 15 & Thu 16 April, or Tue 23 & Wed 24 June) will be provided, along with entertainment at the end of day one.

Applications are welcomed from penultimate / final-year undergraduates or Masters / PhD students in mathematics, statistics, physics or computer science. Places will be allocated on a competitive basis.
