The Postgraduate Institute for Measurement Science (PGI) are very pleased to invite you to the 5th PGI Annual Conference in September:
NEXT GENERATION METROLOGY - A VIRTUAL PLATFORM FOR INNOVATION
Please join us for this exciting four-session online conference throughout September.
The sessions will be delivered in two hour slots each week, and will include notable keynote speakers, student talks and poster presentations.
These will culminate in a three hour career development workshop delivered by key professionals from diverse sectors, including potential employers.
The conference will cover the following topics:
Tuesday 8th September, 11am-1pm - Engineering solutions for tomorrow's challenges
The Fourth Industrial Revolution is the ongoing transformation of traditional manufacturing and industrial practices combined with the latest smart technology. Different sectors are adopting new and innovative approaches. This session explores new engineering solutions and next-generation metrology.
Keynote Speaker: Dr Rachel Cooke (MA Meng PhD CEng FIChemE), Senior Reliability Engineering Manager, Amazon Europe
Tuesday 15th September, 11am-1pm - Metrology for the digital age
In the digital age, the world of measurement is changing fast and metrology plays a critical role. With digitalisation, the use of electronic measurement data is rapidly increasing. This creates new opportunities but also poses challenges in legal metrology, highly accurate simulation or virtual measurement instrument and reliable data analysis. Learn how the national digital strategy is impacting metrology, and how businesses can be transformed through digital innovation.
Keynote Speaker: Dr Ramona Marfievici, Senior IoT Manager, Digital Catapult
Tuesday 22nd September, 11am-1pm - Carbon net zero
In 2019, the UK government put forward an amendment to the Climate Change Act making it a law to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This made the UK the first of the G7 group of nations and the first major global economy to make such a target legally binding. This session looks at how the UK aims to achieve this target and how metrology can help.
Keynote Speaker: Dr Neil Jennings, Partnership Development Manager, Faculty of Natural Sciences, The Grantham Institute for Climate Change
Tuesday 29th September, 10am-1pm - Career Workshop
This workshop led by a panel of experts from diverse sectors, aims to provide researchers with the tools required in career planning. This includes using a proactive approach to map out your career strategy, building networks, raising your profile, preparing for the job market and CV writing. These skills will be useful for all students, whether you are in your first, middle or final years.
All sessions are online, free and are designed to be flexible, so once registered, please do participate for all or parts of them.
