Hi all,

To support digital inclusion this academic year, we will be launching
two new schemes (details below). The application process will openly

scheme and 6^th October for the Small Grant Scheme. Details and links to

I would be grateful if you could circulate these details to relevant
staff and students.

*Digital Inclusion Laptop Loan Scheme
<https://www.strath.ac.uk/studywithus/scholarships/digitalinclusionequipmentloanscheme/>*

The University of Strathclyde Digital Inclusion Programme is a
technology loan scheme for students who do not have access to an
appropriate PC or Laptop to support their learning. It is funded by a
grant from the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) and is administered under
the guidance
<http://www.sfc.ac.uk/web/FILES/announcements_sfcan122020/Additional_capital_funding_to_support_digital_provision_in_AY_2020-21.pdf>
of the SFC.

The programme is open to students who meet the residence conditions
outlined in the SFC guidance document.
<http://www.sfc.ac.uk/web/FILES/announcements_sfcan122020/Additional_capital_funding_to_support_digital_provision_in_AY_2020-21.pdf>
In summary, this is those students who meet the residence requirements
for SAAS living cost support.

They must also meet one of the following personal criteria:

  * are care experienced
    <https://www.strath.ac.uk/studywithus/undergraduate/strathclydecares/>
    (either undergraduate or postgraduate); or
  * are in receipt of a UniversitySTAR Scholarship
    <https://www.strath.ac.uk/studywithus/scholarships/alumni/strathclydeundergraduatescholarshipprogramme/>;
    or
  * receive SAAS support that includes an enhanced student loan (for
    Independent Students) or a Young Students’ Bursary

Students who do not meet the personal criteria but feel they have an
exceptional need for an equipment loan may also apply.

Students will be asked to detail their requirements and applications
will be assessed by a panel after each closing date.

Successful applicants will receive:

 1. A Hewlett Packard (HP) laptop (or equivalent) that meets at least
    the minimum specifications recommended by Information Services.

And/or

 2. A wifi grant

This equipment will be loaned for the duration of a student’s degree for
their exclusive use. The laptop will come with a basic package of
University licensed software. The laptop will remain the property of the
University, but the student will be able to keep and use it until they
finish their course.

*Digital Inclusion Small Grant
<https://www.strath.ac.uk/studywithus/scholarships/digitalinclusionsmallgrantfund/>*

The University of Strathclyde Digital Inclusion Small Grant provides a
small grant to students experiencing hardship or financial challenges in
purchasing appropriate equipment to access online learning.

It is open to RUK undergraduate students and Home and RUK postgraduate
students. It is funded with monies from the Student Awards Agency
Scotland (SAAS) and is a partner scheme to the Digital Inclusion Laptop
Loan Scheme.

The fund is open to students who have "Home" or "RUK" fees status.

Students must demonstrate a significant financial obstacle to purchasing
a laptop or paying for wifi access.

  * For undergraduate students, this will normally be assessed by
    reference to assessed household income: where household income for
    Student Finance is £33,999 or less.
  * Care experienced RUK students are included.
  * Postgraduate applicants must demonstrate that they face a
    significant financial obstacle to purchasing appropriate equipment.

SAAS funded undergraduates who are eligible for the Digital Inclusion
Laptop Loan Scheme will be considered for that scheme in the first
instance.

Successful applicants who need support for a laptop purchase will
receive a grant of up to £500. Those needing support with accessing an
appropriate internet connection will receive an award of £150
