Guidance for First Aiders

If you are a departmental First Aider and your certificate has expired or is due to expire before the 31 March 2021 and you wish to requalify, you must book on to the relevant First Aid at Work (FAW) or Emergency First aid at Work (EFAW) training course.
The University is planning to resume training as soon as it is possible to do so, information on resumption of training will be provided in due course.

Information will be shared on student feedback and changes to this year’s student surveys due to the COVID-19 pandemic – including NSS, which launched at Strathclyde on 25 January 2021.
Each of our four Faculties will share reflections on new ways of working and enhancement, priorities for this academic year and opportunities for change going forward. The forum will run for approximately one hour with time afterwards for questions and discussion.

Module leaders (Class Co-ordinator or equivalent) participating should ensure that they switch on Module Evaluation and select appropriate dates for their module to be included.
Module evaluation set-up should be completed in Myplace by the end of day on a Wednesday to go live on the Monday of the following week.
Colleagues wishing evaluations to start on Monday 8 February should turn on module evaluation in their Myplace class sites by the end of Wednesday 3 February.

Enabling students to contribute to solving global challenges
The University of Strathclyde has joined the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) as part of its drive on climate change action.
Founded in 2007, the ISCN is an international network of leading universities in sustainability and climate change.
Members of the Network use their shared experiences, capacity, passion, and intellectual capital to take meaningful action to contribute to sustainable development.
In granting membership to Strathclyde, the ISCN has recognised the University’s work on sustainable development through: its research and teaching; its partnerships with Glasgow City Council, industry, third sector and Government organisations on sustainable development; and, strategic initiatives such as active travel plans and the work of the Sustainable Strathclyde team.

Important issues around privacy, digital equity and information behaviour
The experiences of library users adapting to digital lending are being explored in research at the University of Strathclyde.
The prevalence of lending digital books, which had already been increasing for a number of years, has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has left them as the only option for many library members during periods of lockdown.
The study will examine changes in information behaviour, issues around the potential emergence of a ‘digital divide’ and concerns over privacy.
It is being funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC), under the UKRI COVID-19 Rapid Response programme.

Strathclyde’s Student Union is one of the biggest in Scotland representing over 23,000 students.
The Union can only run with the help of Strathclyde students. The 13 positions include paid, full-time Executive roles such as Union President and voluntary, part-time Non-Executive roles such as the International Students Rep. Every role is essential in representing student’s voices and views as well as working to enact changes that improve life at Strathclyde.

She shares her advice for anyone starting out in her field (don't read Twitter!) and the positive ways in which the pandemic has brought her research team together despite the restricted lab capacity and impact that's had on progressing their projects.
