Long-serving colleagues with a combined 780 years of service were celebrated at a special virtual ceremony on Thursday 28 January.
Those colleagues who recently reached milestones of 25 and 40 years of service were congratulated by Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Convener of Court Dame Sue Bruce, and Senior Deputy Convener Ronnie Cleland at the Zoom event.
We asked some of those honoured at the ceremony to reflect on their time at the University and tell us their ‘Strathclyde story’.

There will be a series of videos offering a range of advice about how to support your child, and new material will be uploaded over the next while.
Materials will be for those with children in primary and/or secondary school.
Remember, you are supporting your child's learning, you are not home schooling.

In line with our socially progressive and people-oriented values, we have also extended eligibility for University Maternity Pay and Adoption Pay by reducing the service requirements for staff. Eligible partners will also now be entitled to three weeks' Maternity Support Leave at full pay.

This is just the first in a range of Microsoft 365 products that will be rolled out as part of the Cloud Transformation Programme. Fitting workouts in to your schedule can be challenging but our desk exercise video is designed to be as accessible as possible, without the need to change your clothes or surroundings.
This workout is five minutes in length so it won’t take up too much time and can fit around work and meetings.

So she committed to running every day during October and, to motivate her even more, donated the cost of her usual commute to charity.

Newly-published research at Strathclyde
Tiny earthquakes, too small to be felt on the Earth’s surface, create chemical changes which turn groundwater acidic, according to newly-published research at the University of Strathclyde.
The research paper<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/eruih5qa3buxru4xfpp9cz/external?email=true&a=5&p=58715544&t=31139333> ‘Microseismic events cause significant pH drops in groundwater’ published by Geophysical Research Letters, documents for the first time how tiny earthquakes, not felt at the surface, break the chemical bonds in rocks during fracturing.
These broken chemical bonds react with the surrounding water and create pockets of acidic groundwater.
The Lead author is Dr Mark Stillings, a Research Associate in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Helping to build a fairer, more inclusive society
A Strathclyde academic has received a fellowship from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to further the impact of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) research in Scottish Heritage.
The funding will help Dr Churnjeet Mahn, Reader in the School of Humanities, to create vital capacity to address equality, diversity and inclusion issues in some of Scotland’s largest and most influential heritage organisations, including Museums and Galleries Scotland.

The analysis, by researchers at the Fraser of Allander Institute<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/fc61e4q2b99xru4xfpp9cz/external?email=true&a=5&p=58715544&t=31139333> at the University of Strathclyde, says that despite many improvements over the past 30 years, too many people have been cut adrift, especially over the past ten years when financial pressures have restricted the support on offer.

Five University of Strathclyde academics have received outstanding gradings for three recently completed Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) projects they have led.
The KTP programme is funded by Innovate UK as well as research councils and devolved administrations. The Programme seeks to link academics and businesses to work on strategic challenges with an average grant award of £200k.

Niall McAlinden, Research Fellow, Institute of Photonics says: "I took this picture of Dr James Bowden from Strathclyde Business school at the top of Dumcolm in the Kilpatrick Hills.
"In the background, the view is across towards Ben Lomond and the Trossachs. We arranged to go for a run together on one of our Friday rest and recuperation days.
"It was a great opportunity to chat about our research and think about potential future collaboration. We finished our run running towards a spectacular sunset but unfortunately the camera on my phone couldn’t do it justice."
