You are invited to attend the next event in the Talks at NAOME series:

The Impact of Quantum Technologies on Warship Design

After the success of our first two events, which featured speakers from BAE Systems and AWS, the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society Student Branch Chapter is delighted to invite Jake Rigby - the Research and Development Lead at BMT to deliver the next presentation in our Talks at NAOME series.

Abstract

New advancements in quantum technologies look to provide significant improvements in capability for combat platforms in navies across the world. From communications systems to weapon targeting and navigation, there are countless possibilities for enhancements and augmentation of current systems. Quantum radar and sensors offers the possibility to detect stealth platforms, above and below the water to allow more effective defence systems. Quantum encryption could provide new levels of assurance for data and voice communications providing confidence to command and control elements from strategic hubs that transmitted messages are secure. A combination of sensors and highly precise quantum clocks will enable maritime platforms to navigate with absolute confidence without the need for traditional space based global navigation satellite systems.

This talk will describe what a quantum enhanced warship of the future could look like and present the latest technological advancements from across the world. We may still many years of the matured physical application of these technologies into platforms, but by considering the impact today we can outline the roadmap of development.

Please join us next Tuesday at 2pm via zoom link for what will surely be an exciting presentation. Please find the event poster attached to this email, and the presentation details below:
