Every year, colleagues are asked to nominate individual members of staff or teams who consistently demonstrate the University’s Values in their work, contributions and relationships.
Nominations received are considered by a cross-University panel, with the best examples being celebrated at a Strathclyde Medals Ceremony where individuals and teams receive a Values Medal or a Values Team Trophy.

To reduce the risk of cyber-attack staff are being asked to avoid storing images of your signature on your desktop, or using images of your signature in email correspondence.
The only time you should use digital images of your signature is where a signature is required for University business, from a member of staff authorised to sign such documents, or where secure eSignature software is in place, for example, for the authorised signing of contracts and legal agreements.

Customer Services Manager Emma Graham said: “As a Customer Service Excellence (CSE) accredited service, we’re always exploring new ways to support our students and staff.
"Customers have previously told us that they would appreciate an online chat option for their Library and IT questions, so we are rolling out the FreshChat service for people to try.
"The pilot will run for one month, after which we will seek further feedback from customers to evaluate the effectiveness of the service.”

Wellbeing Photography Competition - top 10 finalists
[5. Derek Gillan: 'The Laird' viewing his domain overlooking Loch Tulla.]A big thank you to the many of you who once again shared your talents and submitted your photographs for the competition.
We received over 120 entries, illustrating how a diversity of experiences, activities and both the built and natural environment inspire us and are important to our wellbeing.
The competition has never been tougher, there were many more entries than ever, but the panel of judges have made their decision and here are the Top 10 finalists.
Now its up to you get voting and pick the winner and runners up! Voting closes at midnight this Sunday (28 march).

Coffee Roulette

Coffee Roulette is a fun way for colleagues from across the University to get randomly paired with a colleague as part of Strathclyde’s month long wellbeing initiative.
It’s a great way of meeting new people, being socially active, keeping the chat fresh, and re-connecting with colleagues you haven’t spoken to for a while. It also lets you connect with new colleagues and those you maybe haven’t spoken to before.

Student groups, departments and faculties can apply for grant funding from the University of Strathclyde Alumni Fund for a variety of projects which enhance the Strathclyde experience.
Recently-funded projects include undergraduate scholarships, student clubs and societies and the library.

High Intensity Narrow Spectrum (HINS) light technology
The University of Strathclyde has signed a licensing deal for pioneering light technology which kills pathogenic bacteria linked to hospital acquired infections.
Italian light manufacturer Linea Light<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/x5f8v5odetkxru4xfpp9cz/external?email=true&a=5&p=59005463&t=31139333> Group is the first European-based licensee of High Intensity Narrow Spectrum (HINS) light technology, which can suppress harmful bacteria in the air and on surfaces using a narrow spectrum of visible light.
The innovative technology was developed at the University of Strathclyde by Professor Scott MacGregor, Professor John G Anderson, Dr Michelle Maclean and Professor Gerry Woolsey.

Two Strathclyde students, who have created a new prosthetic hand concept, have been recognised in one of Scotland’s longest-running enterprise competitions, winning £1200 to move their business on to the next level.
James Swinburne and Fergal Mackie, of the Department of Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management, have been named winners of the Fresh Ideas competition for their business start-up, Metacarpal, after creating a cutting-edge and user-friendly design for a prosthetic hand.

The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) has announced that it will be offering 30 recent STEM graduates from across Scotland, the chance to work with its engineers and researchers as part of a new scheme aimed at helping those who are struggling to find work due to the economic impact of the pandemic secure employment.
The scheme, funded by the Scottish Government’s £25 million National Transition Training Fund (NTTF) and developed by the NMIS Manufacturing Skills Academy, will provide those taking part with on the job training and the opportunity to build in-demand skills relevant to the worlds of digital and advanced manufacturing and engineering over a six-month period.

The Scottish Government is investing £7 million to support zero emission mobility across two new innovation projects involving the Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC) at Strathclyde.
The LOCATE facility, which will be based at the Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc (MSIP) site in Dundee, will receive £4 million to support heavy duty vehicle platform testing and innovation, particularly around hydrogen fuel cell and battery electric powertrains.
The project is being developed by the Scottish Government in partnership with the PNDC and the Hydrogen Accelerator at the University of St Andrews. Both facilities are closely related, working in partnership to help lay the foundations for a wider ecosystem of innovation infrastructure.

A unique study analysing cyber-crimes reported during the COVID-19 pandemic suggests criminals are exploiting official government announcements to target victims.
Cyber-crime – such as ‘phishing’ – where an individual’s personal information is targeted using deceptive emails and other fraudulent practices - has soared during the global pandemic as fraudsters seek to exploit the unique circumstances.
Dr Xavier Bellekens from the Department Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, who jointly wrote the paper.

[StrathUnion Sports President Eilidh Sneddon with the Glasgow Taxis Cup]The University of Strathclyde has won the inter-varsity Glasgow Taxis Cup competition between the city’s three universities.
The annual competition normally sees students from Strathclyde, Glasgow and Glasgow Caledonian compete in a variety of sports disciplines over the course of a day.
Due the COVID-19 pandemic this year the competition format was changed to facilitate lockdown restrictions.
