Bringing people together in Microsoft Teams

With Teams you can host meetings with your colleagues, use chat to message each other, collaborate on documents in real time together, store your shared files and use tools like Microsoft Planner to help everyone keep on track of team tasks.

Senate Elections 2021
Electoral Roll now available for inspection

The Electoral Roll has been drawn up to include all members of the Academic, Research, Teaching and Knowledge Exchange staff of the University in post on 1 February 2021 and will remain available on Sharepoint<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/1e4okpw524nxru4xfpp9cz/external?email=true&a=5&p=59289195&t=31139365> for inspection until Friday 14 May 2021.

[https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/v2files/shard1/85313/e3/2da34e1b99ba79b0856126.jpg]Those of you considering serving on the University Court* have till this Friday, 7 May, to submit your nomination form.

For those still unsure, this is an opportunity to be part of the highest decision making authority of the University by standing for election among your peers.  Court plays a key role in shaping the University’s strategy and overseeing its effective management.

The majority of Court members are drawn from outside the University, with Academic staff, the Principal and Vice-Principal and Student representatives also sitting on Court. There are normally five Court meetings a year with one of them being a residential strategic meeting in November, normally held at Ross Priory.

Student Module Evaluation
Summer Term

Following the formal assessment period, updates will be made to the Quick Settings in Myplace to allow module leaders to activate and select dates for summer term evaluations.

In the meantime, any module leaders wishing to conduct evaluations starting before Wednesday 26 May 2021 should contact the Student Module Evaluation team at modules at surveys.strath.ac.uk<mailto:modules at surveys.strath.ac.uk> by Thursday 6 May.

The team can also help if some flexibility is required regarding the above evaluation dates.

These include around 1500 desktop PCs in the Library and around the campus, and the Windows Virtual Desktop environment, which is available to all students and staff from home.

This year, the Windows Virtual Desktop has been our main delivery channel to give students access to around 100 specialist software applications.

Up to £2,000 is available for successful applications to set-up and run VIP4SD projects that are able to engage student teams in research related to climate action as a means of actively contributing to Strathclyde’s COP26 legacy beyond the summit itself, which will take place in Glasgow between 1 and 12 November 2021.

Downloaded more than 10,000 times in its first academic year

An innovative free app aimed at Scotland’s National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Physical Education pupils has been downloaded more than 10,000 times in its first academic year.

So far pupils at more than 350 Scottish secondary schools have registered as having used the ‘PE Cycle of Analysis’ app in either pilot or mainstream form since its launch in August 2020.

Developer John Millar, who heads up the Health and Wellbeing faculty at Newbattle High School in Dalkeith, Midlothian, secured £10,000 funding<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/lf22114j57wxru4xfpp9cz/external?email=true&a=5&p=59289195&t=31139333> aimed at staff and post-graduate researchers for commercialisation of his idea from the University of Strathclyde.

They are both graduates of the University’s dedicated Prosthetics and Orthotics<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/1avvmch9lyyxru4xfpp9cz/external?email=true&a=5&p=59289195&t=31139333> degree course, one of only two such dedicated programmes in the UK.

The course is accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council, and is the only UK course accredited by the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics.

More dynamic system and some simple but effective operational changes

It’s been over a year since the Estates Services Department’s new EMS system for reporting maintenance issues went live.

The new, more dynamic system has made dealing with maintenance requests more effective, supporting the department in delivering a great environment in which all at Strathclyde can study and work. The new system enables allocation of tasks to trade operatives via their mobile devices, and provides users with real-time updates on work requests.

In addition, the Estates Helpdesk and Works Management teams have attended workshops led by the Continuous Improvement Team, leading to a large number of simple, but effective operational changes.
