UK Government marks six months to COP26

He detailed how the UK is working towards success in Glasgow and called for all countries to make a consistent and concerted effort on four key goals – mitigation, adaptation, finance and collaboration.

As part of this procedure SPSO require that we make training in handling frontline complaints a compulsory part of induction and provide refresher training for all staff.
To comply with this a MyPlace site has been created with four, short sections on handling frontline complaints based on previous face-to-face training.

The University of Strathclyde has announced the appointment of a Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) to develop, lead and deliver a visionary digital transformation strategy across the institution.
Beth Lawton, who has more than two decades of experience delivering technology enabled change in public and third sector organisations, will take up the post in July.
She will be responsible for developing new digitally-enabled ways of operating to enhance productivity and staff and student centred initiatives to improve the efficiency of digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

Eleven entries from the University of Strathclyde have been named as semi-finalists in academic company creation programme Converge.
The semi-finalists are spread across the competition’s four categories and their businesses are in a range of fields, including health, computing, engineering and agriculture.
They are in contention to win the top prize of £50,000 and runners-up prizes of £20,000, along with post-programme support and five days of bespoke business training.
The winners will be announced at the Converge awards ceremony on 30 September.

A new type of scheme for using quantum technology to encrypt messages, with the aim of a secure global communication network, is to be tested on a satellite, in a programme involving the University of Strathclyde.
The project will develop a space-based photonics source of quantum signals that is scheduled for launch on the Canadian QYESSat (Quantum Encryption and Science Satellite) mission.
Strathclyde will be a partner in the development of a quantum source to be integrated into the satellite and the testing of new ways to distribute quantum encryption keys from space.
Strathclyde will also collaborate with the project’s academic lead, the University of Waterloo in Ontario, on theory and modelling of the quantum payload, as well as developing secure communication protocols based on the new hardware.

A company providing software for the management of laboratory equipment has been spun out from the University of Strathclyde.

ULab can also help generate additional revenues.
It offers prospective research collaborators the opportunity to see what technology is already available and avoids double purchasing, while research funders can ensure their grants are being used prudently.

Over the next five years, Inspire100 will seek to focus on giving 100 start-up and spin-out opportunities the chance to present to an audience of entrepreneurs, investors and experts; gaining valuable feedback, making contacts and inspiring next steps in their entrepreneurial growth.
