A Sway can be started from a blank outline, a template or from an existing PDF, Word or PowerPoint document and means that you can spend less time on designing presentations, and more time thinking about the content you want to put in it.

Road closures until 29 June
[https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/v2files/shard1/85313/c1/7ae7b37933c3a8f4b36807.jpg]Glasgow is one of 11 cities to host matches as part of the UEFA EURO 2020 Tournament, with Hampden Park hosting group games on the 18 and 22 June and a 'round of 16' match on 29 June 2021.
During Euro 2020 the Host City Team will be running a dedicated shuttle bus operation between the city centre and Hampden Park to transport approximately 4,000 spectators and volunteers to the stadium on Hampden match days only.
As such, there are some road closures affecting areas of the city centre close to campus.

Terminating unused connections

Connections showing no outgoing usage for the past six months shall shortly be receiving a SMS message from the provider advising that the connection shall be suspended after 30 days and, where no request is made to restore it, terminated 30 days after the suspension period begins.

£3 million research fund

Research leaders from the University of Strathclyde and pharmaceutical company GSK have been named the winners of a prestigious prize by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
The team has won the RSC’s Industry-Academia Collaboration Award, as part of a series of awards celebrating the most exciting chemical science taking place today.
The prize was awarded for the creation of a sustained partnership which has driven a culture of research and training excellence and created a flow of skilled personnel to enhance capabilities within the sector.

A University of Strathclyde Professor has been named the winner of a prestigious award from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
Professor Karen Faulds has won RSC’s Analytical Division mid-career Award, celebrating the most exciting chemical science taking place today.
Professor Faulds won the prize for contributions to the field of surface enhanced spatially offset Raman scattering (SESORRS). She also receives £3000 and a medal.

A Professor of Computer Science at the University of Strathclyde has won an international award for his exemplary service to the computing field.
Emeritus Professor Andrew McGettrick has received the Association for Computing Machinery’s (ACM) Karl V. Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award for his scholarship and tireless volunteer work and contributions, which have fundamentally improved rigorous computer science as a field of professional practice and as an academic pursuit.

Scientists from the University of Strathclyde and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay have demonstrated a low-cost sensor that can detect fragments of the virus responsible for COVID-19 within wastewater.
The technique, published in the journal Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical<https://universityofstrathclyde.newsweaver.com/cvg4pnmkid/1xx0rqxlytsxru4xfpp9cz/external?email=true&a=5&p=59590868&t=31139333>, could be used to enable widespread monitoring of COVID-19 prevalence in low- and middle-income countries which struggle to conduct mass human testing.
The sensor can be used with portable equipment that uses the standard Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test to detect the SARS-CoV-2 virus, without the need for the expensive chemicals and lab infrastructure needed for real-time quantitative PCR tests.

Researchers believe slightly increased risk should not deter roll-out of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine
A condition that affects the blood, known as idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), may be associated with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in rare cases, according to research involving the University of Strathclyde.
The very small increased risk of the condition – which is characterised by low platelet counts – is estimated to be 11 per million doses, similar to figures seen in vaccines for flu and MMR.
Professor Chris Robertson, Professor of Public Health Epidemiology in Strathclyde's Department of Mathematics and Statistics and Head of Statistics at Health Protection Scotland, was a partner in the study.

Preliminary results of nationwide study
The Delta variant of COVID-19 is associated with approximately double the risk of hospitalisation compared with the Alpha variant, according to a new nationwide study involving the University of Strathclyde.
Two vaccine doses still provide strong protection against the Delta variant – which was first identified in India – but it may be at a lower level compared with the Alpha variant, the early evidence suggests.
Based on data analysed from 5.4 million people in Scotland, the Delta variant is now the dominant form of COVID-19 cases in the country, overtaking the Alpha variant, which was first identified in Kent.

Researchers at the University of Strathclyde and writers’ association Scottish PEN conducted a survey which received responses from more than 100 writers, editors, publishers and activists.
Participants in the survey reported a total of more than 50 cases of receiving legal threats, in which they were asked to delete, partly or wholly, or change content, or to pay compensation.

Each year a group of women are selected to take part in the year-long leadership programme which culminates in a voyage to Antarctica, providing an opportunity to witness first-hand the impact of climate change on a fragile environment.

The free online course has been created for budding product designers to uncover and develop their creative talents.
The course will be led by University of Strathclyde Professor of Design, Paul Rodgers, who will guide students through the key stages of design – including research, identifying customer needs, concept design, making prototypes, testing, marketing, and selling.
