Could any 1st and 2nd year PhD students who have not yet booked a day/time for their progress viva , or have not yet been in touch with me about this, please do so as soon as possible. Instructions and link to poll are reposted below.
One thing I should have perhaps emphasised more in the original guidance - please only select *one* slot on the Doodle poll. If you select more than this then these slots are blocked and cannot be selected by others.
If you've any questions, please get in touch.
Thanks
Gordon

Subject: PhD progress vivas for 1st year and 2nd year students
Dear students (cc-ed to supervisors for information),
I am contacting you to set up your PhD progress viva (duration : 1 hour). We intend that most vivas take place in the next 3 weeks i.e. by Friday 9th September. You have the option of an in-person viva or a remote viva via Zoom.
Each viva will involve a panel consisting of both your supervisors and a viva chair (as an independent assessor).
The viva dates/times available and corresponding viva chairs can be found in the attached file. We may be able to add additional slots once we have more information about the availability of viva chairs.
- *Before* selecting a slot, please liaise with both your supervisors to find a date and time which matches one of the choices available and whether an in-person or remote viva is preferred. Please bear in mind that the viva chair on the day/time you select cannot be one of your supervisors.
- When you have found a date/time when you and your supervisors are available, please select your viva time on the Doodle poll at the link below :
https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/avgKYm0b
If you would like a remote viva, please email Michaela (michaela.graham at strath.ac.uk<mailto:michaela.graham at strath.ac.uk>) as soon as you have selected your slot from the Doodle poll. Otherwise, an in-person viva will be assumed.
- If none of the choices available are suitable, please email Michaela with dates and times that you and your supervisors are available. If availability of both supervisors is a problem, vivas can proceed with the primary supervisor and chair only at the discretion of the primary supervisor.
- After making your selection in the Doodle poll, Michaela will set up a calendar appointment for you, your supervisors and the viva chair stating the location of the viva. If you have requested a remote viva, the appointment will include a Zoom meeting link and passcode.
Supervisors - please make sure that you have completed the supervisor section (part 2) of the annual review form on SPIDER ahead of the viva.
If you've any questions, please get in touch with me.
Gordon
