Occupational Health Service: Early Access Physiotherapy Clinic
[Wellbeing Matters Hub]
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), from short-term back pain to complex, long-term conditions such as arthritis, cause significant suffering and are one of the main reasons for people being off work.
This service’s aim is to assess, diagnose, advise and treat staff who are on sick leave and/or suffering from MSDs at work and to facilitate self-management and support attendance at work.
Early access to physiotherapy is known to limit suffering and restore functionality but unfortunately waiting lists to access NHS physiotherapy prevent early treatment which can delay recovery.

Project SEARCH began its ninth year at Strathclyde in August – providing work placements (internships) for a cohort of 12 young autistic people or people with a learning disability.
Kieran Clark, one of the participants on this year’s programme, has now secured a paid internship with the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), after undertaking two successful placements with the School of Education.
We hear from Kieran and colleagues in the School of Education, including his volunteer mentor or ‘buddy’ Administrative Assistant Rebecca Coventry, about the benefits of Project SEARCH for interns and the departments hosting them.
